What Is Forslean?

Forslean is a weight loss supplement that is manufactured by Sabinsa Corporation. Sabinsa Corporation says that it is a patented Phytonutrient for weight management that promotes lean body mass. The main active ingredient in Forslean is the root extract of Coleus Forskohlii. Coleus Forskohlii is an ancient ayurvedic plant that is a member of the mint and lavender family. It grows in the mountains in Asia and is becoming an increasingly popular ingredient in many natural weight loss products. Forskolin is derived from roots of the plant Coleus forskohili.

Benefit of Forslean

The herb has been used to treat a variety of health problems including enhancement of weight loss. In a study published in Obesity Research this month, researchers put it to the test in a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial in overweight men. Half the subjects received forskolin (250 mg of 10% extract twice per day) and half a placebo pill. After 12 weeks of supplementation forskolin resulted in improved body composition.

This was due to a greater fat loss and increased lean body mass and bone mass. Forskolin also led to a significant increase in free testosterone levels compared to placebo. The findings provide evidence for a role of Coleus forskohili in the improvement of testosterone levels and weight loss. This will surely be followed up with additional work to validate the study findings and determine how forskolin works.

Coleus forskohlii has been shown to increase thyroid hormone production, upregulating metabolism in the process, while exhibiting a positive effect on testosterone production. Indeed in a recent 12-week study, subjects who consumed a standardized extract of Coleus forskohlii roots (250 mg standardized for 10% forskolin extract twice a day), manifested improved lean body mass levels (8.77 lbs of new muscle mass on average) and reduced body fat percentage (9.96 lbs or 11.23%) compared to baseline or control group1.

ForsLean® is a registered trademark of Sabinsa Corporation and is the only Coleus forskohlii preparation supported by US Patent # 5,804,596 defined as “….a method of preparing a forskohlin composition…and use of forskohlin for promoting lean body mass and treating mood disorders” . Canadian, European and Japanese patents are pending. Companies or individuals using any Coleus forskohlii preparation other than ForsLean â in their respective product formulations, which suggest, imply or represent their products to promote lean body mass, fat loss and weight loss are infringing on Sabinsa’s use patent for forskohlin.
